Former Zelenskyy assistant Iuliia Mendel has a book this fall
A journalist and former aide to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy published a book this fall, one of the first announced publications about Zelenskyy and the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
One Signal Publishers announced on Wednesday that it has acquired “The Fight of Our Lives” by Iuliia Mendel. Mendel served as Zelenskyy’s press secretary and spokesperson from 2019 to 2021 and sent dispatches about the war to The Washington Post. According to One Signal, an imprint of Simon & Schuster, Mendel will write about everything from Zelenskyy’s meetings with Soviet leader Vladimir Putin to phone calls with then-President Donald Trump that led to his impeachment for trying to lobby on Zelenskyy to investigate Joe Biden.
Mendel would also write about the “massive economic problems facing Ukraine, the corrupt oligarchs entrenched in league with Russia, and – in the shadow of the recent federal elections in the United States – the Kremlin’s repeated attacks to discredit Zelensky by misinformation and an army of bots and trolls,” the One Signal announcement read in part.
Mendel, 35, has written for the Post and the New York Times, among others.
“I have dreamed all my life of telling the story of Ukraine. It is a triumph. Mendel said in a statement. “A story not of victims, but of heroes who defend freedom. Now that Ukraine, the largest of the post-Soviet republics, is defending democracy against the Russian military for all to see, I can finally share this story with the world.
